F.A.Q.'s
Question: Since your practices are at Wilmington Friends School I heard that Wilmington Friends students get the first shot at playing for Brandywine. Is that true?
Actually it is not true. WFS has a lot of girls that try out as it is very convenient for them! We actually have girls that played for our club last year that represented 32 different schools, from Bohemia Manor and Rising Sun in Maryland up to Avon Grove and Garnett Valley in Pennsylvania! Many of WFS girls have played for other clubs in our area.
Question: Is it a good idea to tryout for other clubs besides Brandywine?
Probably. We always advise girls to make sure you tryout for the team you really want to play for and we hope that is us, but to be sure that you have a back up plan, such as trying out for another club. The important thing is that you play. The most discouraging thing we hear is "I wanted to play for Brandywine but didn't think I'd make the team so I tried out elsewhere". Don't make that mistake! One thing is for sure... you will never make the team if you don't try!
Question: Can you tell me if your games are on Sunday's?
The tournaments are either a Saturday or a Sunday. That is up to the tournament host. I know that they try to keep the younger girls on Saturday's and the older (15's and above) on Sunday's but I do have to say that either age group can play on either day.
Question: How many tournaments do your teams go to a month?
Club volleyball teams do not have a schedule made up in advance like a school team might. It is all invitational tournaments and our teams generally go to about two a month.
Question: How far away are the tournaments?
All of our regular one day tournaments are within a 2 hour radius. We generally travel to Maryland and Pa. for most of our regular tournaments. Most teams generally choose to travel to a few weekend long tournaments that will give that team better competition. Those weekend type tournaments can be in Pittsburgh, Richmond or even Texas or Atlanta (just thinking of places some of the teams went last year). Generally most teams do not do more than a couple of those type and not all teams travel.
Question: What is a "practice player" and what is the benefit of becoming one?
A practice player is a volleyball player that cannot play on a tournament team (for a variety of reasons). These volleyball players recognize the benefit of practice and working with a team at a high level during the club season. A practice player receives all the instruction that a "regular" tournament player does but does not attend tournaments.
No Hype, Just Results! At BVC, we believe in competing with pride, passion and sportsmanship. We dont believe in unnecessary hype or pressure sales tactics. We believe that championships are won with the highest quality training and competition. We dont believe in making false promises, but instead think a player should choose a club based on its track record. Here is ours: A lot of clubs talk about their "National-level" teams. A trip to the JO Championships must be earned. BVC has sent 21 teams to JO Nationals in the past 12 years, more than every other club in Delaware combined over that time period. In the past 5 years alone, we have sent 13 girls teams to JO nationals. We have competed in the CHRVA region since our inception in 1996 and have been the same family operation since we started. Our club directors have never needed to leave a region, state or club to get a fresh start somewhere else. None of our coaches have been fired from any club, high school or college. We have never had any incidents or investigations of inappropriate behavior by any of our coaches. We are proud to uphold the trust you place in us. Other clubs without a proven track record will put a "copy and paste" philosophy on a website or talk about being the best club in the area. We will be in the gym outworking the competition.
